The five-star, resort-inspired Palisades on the Glen retirement residence is nestled amongst the meandering ravines and trails of the Credit Valley Conservation Area in Mississauga, Ontario. The project consists of a 170,000-square-foot, 22-story, reinforced concrete structure with an additional three below-grade levels. Exterior cladding elements include a combination of architectural precast, window wall, punch windows, and natural stone veneer. High-end interior finishes include hardwood flooring, wool carpeting, granite counter tops, hardwood wall paneling, and upscale tiling material.
Environmental sensitivity was key to this client, as the site was located directly adjacent to the Sawmill Creek Valley, which forms part of the Credit Valley Conservation Area. From the onset, the PCL team faced considerable concern from the local community regarding construction on a green field site, but with a comprehensive community communications plan firmly in place, the PCL team found its place in the heart of the local community within the first six months. Direct access to the project manager was made available through a community hotline, and all calls were addressed within 24 hours. Meticulous, daily clean up of the site area and surrounding roadways, as well as redirected traffic to main roads and offsite parking minimized impact on the surrounding area.
