PCL’s scope of work for the Plant Scherer Bypass Outage and Light Structural Steel Package included steel, duct, and pipe activities. This contract (in conjunction with others), facilitated completion of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process at the Plant Scherer site in Juliette, Georgia.
During two planned outages, PCL’s scope of work included boiler house structural steel modifications, the erection of the lower SCR support steel, and the demolition and installation of duct work. Two structures were erected on the high roof of the boiler house to support two S50 stiff-leg Derrick cranes, and four new structures were erected in the precipitator area to support the SCR.
The Unit 2 outage consisted of the demolishing, fabricating, and installation of new duct and dampers for both the SCR and FGD. Existing duct and steel were demolished in order to install the new duct. New steel was added to the existing structure for support and access to the new SCR damper. The Unit 1 outage scope of work was identical to Unit 2, with the exception of the FGD duct.
