This project consisted of structural, mechanical, and electrical repairs that would revitalize rail traffic to and from the Port of Miami. Structural repairs included structural steel replacement and upgrades, bolt/rivet replacement, spall repairs, cathodic protection pile-jacket installation, and track replacement.
The PCL project team replaced several machinery components, including the Hopkins Frame and drive machinery, in addition to refurbishing the span locks. A complete electrical system replacement was necessary for remote operation of the bridge, as was the installation of new track signal equipment. This project also included the abatement of lead paint from the existing structural steel members and the re-painting of the steel span.
