PCL Energy Inc. (formerly Monad Industrial Constructors Inc.) was contracted by CNRL to construct the steam plant on their Wolf Lake project site. This work was part of a larger expansion that was designed to increase the overall production of the existing heavy oil plant by 30,000 bbl per day. PCL Energy’s scope of work included the construction of concrete equipment foundations, installation of precast concrete grade beams, 19 pipe rack and equipment modules, miscellaneous structural steel, vessel and equipment setting, mechanical erection, and supply and installation of off-rack piping.
One of the keys to PCL Energy’s securing this project was the team’s ability to draw on the resources of the PCL fabrication and module assembly facilities to offer the client full-service delivery. Through coordination with these facilities, the PCL Energy team was able to sequence the work in an effective manner, allowing construction to proceed on schedule and meet the client’s first steam and first oil milestones.
