This 235,000-square-foot expansion to the existing Queensway Carleton Hospital consists of a new 85,000-square-foot, four-storey Cancer Centre with three radiation bunkers, treatment rooms, and CT scanners. It adds two outpatient clinic pods and thirty-three chemotherapy spaces as well as systemic oncology and pharmacy to the hospital's functional program. A 367-foot-long raised link connects the expansion to the existing building. The project also included the construction of a separate, seven-level parking structure with 581 stalls and a total area of approximately 150,000 square feet, built with a unique combination of cast-in-place concrete structural cores with precast concrete double-T floors and columns.
Through a series of carefully phased and sequenced relocations, the site received substantial rework of infrastructure, including water, storm, and sanitary sewers, and primary high-voltage electrical feeds. Other sitework included roadways, parking lots, landscaping, a new electrical substation, and a new main emergency power generator.
