To meet the RCMP’s increasing training program needs, Fort Dufferin is the first of three new dormitory-style cadet accommodations at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina.
Named for the Manitoba jumping-off point for the Mounties’ 1874 March West, this LEED Silver project involved the construction of a new four-level, 224-bed dormitory. The scope included administration offices, a reconfigured main entrance, a new guardhouse, and both soft and hard landscaping. The mechanical system included air conditioning and in-floor radiant heat. Both the mechanical and electrical systems connected to existing services within the Training Academy.
Coordinating the systems and components of this project required teamwork between the client, consultants, and builders. Despite summer flooding and adverse winter temperatures, the innovative PCL team found ways to maintain the schedule: by working weekends, scheduling overtime, and introducing a hoarding system with temporary heat, PCL brought this project successfully to completion in August 2012.
