This high-profile project involved major renovations to the city of Regina’s primary hospital and health care facility. An addition to the existing hospital; an upgrade of the Energy Centre; a 6,200-square-meter (66,736-sq.ft.) mental health facility; renovations to the existing building areas; and redevelopment of the surrounding site were all part of PCL’s scope.
The six-level addition houses, among other things, an MRI unit, a burn unit, and a unique Native Healing Centre. Renovations were completed on the emergency services areas, the operating rooms, and the sleep lab.
Due to the political nature of health care in Saskatchewan, this project received much attention from local residents and the media. It proceeded in a fully operational hospital, and great care was taken at all times to minimize disruptions and maintain a safe environment. Completed in 2000, the project served as a launching point for PCL’s involvement in several other projects at the hospital.
