Rogers Place

Project Overview

Rogers Place and its related infrastructure boast 1,110,900 square feet of space, the largest true high-definition scoreboard in the NHL, and expansive concourses with natural light. Rogers Place anchors a major revitalization of Edmonton’s downtown and spurred $5 billion in private and public developments, including ICE District, which will be Canada’s largest sports and entertainment area. The project scope included construction of Ford Hall, the Downtown Community Arena, LRT connection, and pedestrian pedway.

The 141-foot-tall arena consists of eight levels, underground parking garage, event level, mezzanine level, main concourse, Scotiabank Suites level, PCL Loge level, upper concourse level, and media level. The building holds 18,347 for hockey games and over 20,000 for concerts. There are 57 executive suites, 24 theatre boxes, 3,100 club seats, 900 loge seats, 300 O-zone seats, 500 drink rail seats, three food-inclusive clubs, two club lounges, and one full-service restaurant located within the building. Rogers Place offers guests the latest in technology with over 1,250 HD TVs located throughout the building and free access to Wi-Fi in all clubs, concourses, and the seating bowl.

Rogers Place was built to LEED® Silver standards and is the first Canadian LEED® Silver NHL facility. The measures incorporated to obtain the LEED credits include one ice plant for both rinks, 12 electric car charging stations, 14 percent reduced energy consumption from motion-activated LED lights, 30 percent of materials used in construction were from recycled or contained recycled content, 37 percent less water use from low-flush toilets and efficient fixtures, 83 percent of wood products used in construction were from certified sources, and 89 percent of construction debris diverted from landfills. Rogers Place also qualified for LEED points based on its location in the downtown core. Its location in Edmonton’s downtown core improves density, encourages walkability, reduces infrastructure needs, and optimizes the use of the city’s public transit system.

Rogers Place is a transformative, world-class entertainment venue that outmatches all other facilities of its kind. From the start of construction, it was imperative the building be ready for the start of the 2016/17 NHL and WHL hockey seasons. The project team met this goal by delivering the 1.1-million-square-foot facility in 30 months, on time and on budget, with every worker returning home safe at the end of every day.
