The Aztec Aquaplex includes three pools: a 50-meter Olympic-style pool, a 7,000-square-foot recreational pool, and a 250-square-foot hydrotherapy spa. The complex includes a 4,985-square-foot building that houses showers, locker rooms, restrooms, administrative offices, member services, storage, and support facilities. The complex also includes a 2,115-square-foot building that accommodates the pool’s mechanical equipment.
At the time of bid, the excavation required shoring, but the PCL team found a way to value engineer this aspect. During construction, the team opted to lay the excavation back on a one-to-one slope instead, saving the client $100,000.
