PCL Intracon Power was responsible for the construction of the Residue Hydro Conversion (RHC) Integrated Hydro Treatment Unit, the main process unit in the Shell Upgrader Expansion #1. The scope included all electrical, instrumentation, power and control, construction power, and heat trace activities, including the large carbon dioxide compressor assembly and tie-ins to other upgrader units.
The client pursued this expansion under the Alberta Oil Sands Project to increase their capacity by 100,000 barrels per day. The PCL family of companies worked in unison throughout the life cycle of the project because most activities needed to run parallel to one another. Unique solutions and alternate approaches were paramount in delivering this very complex unit in a timely manner. PCL’s module yard was an integral part in the success of the project, delivering approximately 140 modules to site.
