South Link Project Sea-Tac Airport Station to South 200th Street

Project Overview

This is the first design-build procurement for Sound Transit. The project will expand the existing light-rail system from Sea-Tac Airport to a new interim terminal station at South 200th Street and 28th Avenue South. PCL will design and build 1.6 miles of double-track light-rail transit on an elevated guideway, utilizing the span-by-span and balanced cantilever accelerated bridge construction (ABC) methods. Using these methods, the project team will minimize impacts to Sea-Tac Airport’s busy roadway system and eliminate three phases of construction.

Key project elements include nearly 1,200 precast concrete segments, two long-span bridges to minimize traffic disruptions, transit systems, Sound Transit’s first passenger station to incorporate on-site photovoltaic energy generation, and associated civil infrastructure improvements. The project is expected to achieve the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification.
