St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton West 5th Campus Redevelopment

Project Overview

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s West 5th Campus is home to regional specialized mental health services for South Central Ontario, providing inpatient and outpatient care to those suffering with a severe mental illness or addiction. The new centre is a first in Ontario, designed to break down barriers to access to care while reducing latent stigmas surrounding mental health and addiction. The new facility houses 305 inpatient beds, mental health and medical outpatient clinics, academic and research centres, and administrative support services. The building features 16 courtyards, gardens, and terraces, a spiritual centre, museum of mental health, and public spaces with lots of natural light. The Galleria, a unique space designed to integrate recovery with social living, features a wellness centre; coffee shop; clothing store; salon and book store; expanded outpatient clinics for psychiatry, diagnostic imaging, and medical services; and innovative research and academic spaces

This design/build/finance/maintain project was delivered under the Government of Ontario’s Infrastructure Ontario Alternate Financing Program (AFP) and has achieved LEED Gold certification.
