The St. Joseph's Hospital Redevelopment project took place in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, at the base of the Niagara Escarpment. The project included a new 10-storey tower, a 650-space parking garage, an academic center, an expanded research facility, and the installation of two MRIs and a PET scanner.
The project also included a retrofit to the hospital’s medical gas systems, which involved construction of a new bulk facility, the decommissioning of the medical gas service, and an upgrade to the existing system. These projects were completed within the usual constraints of budget and schedule, but were further complicated by the priority placed on the hospital being completely operational during the process without any unplanned disruptions.
PCL’s signature early planning, close communication with all parties, precise installation, and a thorough review and understanding of the certification process ensured that renovations to the hospital’s critical systems ran smoothly, with no disruption or risk to hospital patients.
