PCL's involvement with St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church started two years before actual construction. Through the "Art of the Start" design-build process, PCL budgeted multiple modules of work. Construction moved forward once models were selected and capital funding came through.
The project included a two-story expansion to the existing St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church building, which added new offices, a music room, classrooms, new landscaping, a rain garden, and a parking lot. The structure consists of concrete/masonry foundation, precast plank, structural steel frame, architectural exterior masonry, and mechanical and electrical systems. The aging chiller system was replaced with new rooftop HVAC units to improve the environmental quality of the sanctuary. The project also included a renovation of the main level administrative offices.
The existing church and office remained operational throughout construction, and PCL’s on-site crew made schedule adjustments to accommodate church events and obligations, often with little or no notice.
