This project involved the electrical and instrumentation portion of Syncrude’s Plant 18-2 LGO Aromatic Saturation Unit for the UE-1 project. The expansion required installation of 13.8 KV motors; 4.16 KV motors; a cable tray system; a communications system; instrumentation; complete ground grid, power and control cabling; and the corresponding precommissioning activities.
The client undertook this very large expansion to increase production and improve overall product quality. Even though there was a 50% growth in overall production, the plant itself was designed to decrease overall sulpher dioxide emissions by 20%. PCL worked diligently to deliver a quality facility, and, at the end of the day, PCL Intracon Power was selected to be part of the completion team for the overall expansion.
