Toronto, a diverse, bustling city that’s full of sports enthusiasts, made thousands of soccer fans cheer with joy when it was granted its own professional soccer team: Toronto Football Club (Toronto FC, in short). They had the team, so all Toronto needed was a place where the FC could train to become world class.
And wow, did they get what they wanted! Located at Downsview Park in north Toronto, the 5.7-hectare site offers players their choice of kicking around the ball on any of three outdoor grass fields or an artificial turf field, which is enclosed in a bubble to allow training all year around. Because if we want to be the best, the boys can’t rest for too long!
But training to become world class doesn’t involve just practising on the field. That’s why the site is also home to a two-storey fieldhouse, which includes fitness, therapy, and office areas, as well as dorm rooms.
Of course, most projects come with challenges, and the construction of the TFC Academy and Training Facility was affected by weather restrictions. But PCL worked long and hard to get the major work done according to schedule, and made sure that the facility opened as soon as possible.
With incredible facilities, it’s amazing what a team of athletes can do. PCL is proud of TFC, and we’re joined by countless fans, including the 16,000 season ticket holders at the PCL-built BMO Stadium, where the official games are played.
