UCI Student Center Expansion Phase 4

Project Overview

This design-build project consists of the expansion and renovation of the existing Student Center Complex on the main campus of University of California, Irvine. A total of 106,000 square feet of new construction was added, as well as renovations to the main structure and an addition to the Cross Cultural Center. This project also included extensive site work, meeting and conference space, a food-service area, kitchen and dining facilities, a retail area, a Student Administrative Office area, and numerous offices for student organizations.

This project included the design and construction integration of a new building into an existing building. Making this seamless transition has its fair share of challenges, but nothing compared to the surprise of the late addition of a ballroom. The ballroom space of the conference center was a major scope addition that occurred well into construction when funding became available. The scope of work included the design and build-out of the space, and installation of moveable wall partitions and audio/visual equipment. Despite the limited time available to design and construct this new portion, the team was able to deliver the facility ahead of schedule.
