The Rieber North Residence Hall includes 631 beds, and the Rieber West Residence Hall houses 592 beds. The scope of work also included a partial first-floor renovation to the existing Rieber Hall, demolition of an existing building, and construction of a boutique dining restaurant.
Throughout the construction of both Rieber West and Rieber North, PCL had to maintain clear access for the campus fire department to access the existing Rieber Hall with a fire truck in case of an emergency. This was never a problem, but it was a challenge when it came to paving the access road in preparation for project completion. In coordination with the fire department, PCL placed concrete and brick banding on one half of the access road, leaving the other side open for emergency traffic. Once the concrete and the mortar for the brick banding had cured, PCL opened that lane for emergency access and began grading and paving the opposite side. This coordination process exceeded the client’s and the fire department’s expectations.
