Project Overview

The Unit Operations Facility for the Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) is a LEED Silver-certified project adhering to all Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection requirements. Its 51,900-square-foot Company Operations Facility (COF); 17,800-square-foot Battalion Headquarters (BNHQ); exterior hardstand canopies; equipment storage building; and two parking areas were proudly delivered under budget.

Although the project consisted of three main structural elements, PCL proposed building each with a different structural design. The COF was designed as a prefabricated metal building, the BNHQ as a modular wood frames structure, and the hardstand canopies with structural steel. Each structure required a different design team, fabrication, and installation firm, but by looking at the efficiency of each structure rather than trying to remain consistent across all three, the client received the project they wanted for less.
