VA Community Living Center

Project Overview

Located deep in the American Lake campus, the Department of Veterans Affairs' new Community Living Center is a serene setting of resident units, a dining and activity area, commercial kitchen, and adminisrative offices. Encircled by forest and shoreline, the center invites users to enjoy views not previously available to rehabilitating veterans at this location.

Construction of this new facility enabled the evolution of the center as a whole. Once a standard nursing home with artificially lit corridors and small spaces, the Community Living Center is now awash in generous daylight and surrounded by the natural environment. Dedicated design and construction team members worked side by side with client stakeholders to develop a building that enhances quality of life for patients, and is a welcome place to be for staff and visitors. The result was the client's first LEED Silver-certified federal facility in the county.
