This aviary at Zoo Miami is home to approximately 70 species of exotic, rare, and endangered birds. Features of this reconstruction project included numerous above-ground and underwater exhibits, a free-flight area, a visitors’ center, and a service building. Two pools were also constructed for aquatic birds and other wildlife, complete with underwater viewing windows.
This project replaced the original aviary, which was destroyed during Hurricane Andrew. The new aviary was designed to meet more stringent Florida hurricane codes, and it quickly became the zoo’s biggest attraction.
