BC Place Roof - Phase 2

This revitalization project was divided into two major scopes of work: roof replacement and facility upgrades.

We replaced the 28-year-old, air-supported stadium roof with a retractable fabric roof and a permanent fabric roof. It is supported by massive structural steel, including 36 masts, and cable components. The masts and radial cable net support system are connected through a centre node in a unique design resulting in the largest roof of its kind in the world. 

Retrofit upgrades included new finishes, mechanical and electrical systems, seismic upgrade, enhanced entrances and concourses, and exterior landscaping. Further improvements included new lighting and sound systems, HD electronic video boards, new all-weather playing turf surface and replacement of over 50,000 seats. 

The new facade and glazed curtain walls allow more natural light into the building. The nine-meter high transparent ETFE and louvered walls have custom LED lighting animations and allow air flow at the perimeter façade.
