Project Description
Located on the main campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder, the ATLAS Center building is approximately 66,000 sf with two levels below grade and three levels plus a mechanical penthouse above grade. Programmed spaces within the facility include a production studio from which the university television channel is broadcast; a performance studio (black box theatre); audio/video control rooms; distance learning and video conferencing rooms; an exhibition lobby with video wall, touch screen directories and information kiosks; 75 seat film screening theatre; 150 seat "smart" auditorium; lounge/café; classrooms; conference rooms and office space. Construction requirements for the ATLAS Center building included sitework; mass excavation and associated shoring; drilled pier foundation, landscaping; hardscaping; c.i.p. concrete foundation walls; architectural concrete; exterior masonry / stonework; interior millwork and casework; HVAC; mechanical; plumbing; fire protection; smoke management system; electrical power and lighting; theatrical lighting; telecommunications; security and audio / video. The project has been described as a "jewel box" built on a postage stamp as the site was extremely restricted and congested.
