The NIST B1E project consists of construction and LEED required commissioning of a new 120,000 square foot advanced testing laboratory. The building structure is 3 levels high consisting of cast-in place concrete pan deck & walls, architectural pre-cast concrete cladding, and a structural steel penthouse. The building will house 78 technical laboratories, a 6 bay clean room block, and supporting administrative spaces. The lab areas are located on a single floor, where offices are stacked on two levels. The remaining two levels above the laboratory space contains mechanical and electrical equipment. The laboratory spaces are focused on environmental stability of temperature control, vibration control and power quality, not yet achieved by any other building on the NIST campus. Landscaping, concrete pavers, an exposed boulder-lined irrigation ditch, and additional parking are also included.
