Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge over Tennessee Route 96

Profile of Bridge At Dusk

Location:

Franklin, TN

Built By:

PCL Civil Constructors, Inc.
Project Description
This double arch segmental bridge is more than 1,572 linear feet long and carries the two-lane parkway 155 linear feet above Tennessee Route 96 and a heavily wooded valley. To minimize environmental damage to the valley sides and floors, we used cable stays to support the arches during segmental erection, rather than conventional shoring towers. Never before in U.S. history had a precast, post tensioned approach been used to construct an arch. The 122 arch segments and 196 deck segments were produced in a casting yard we set up eight miles from the project site. Upon completion, the bridge has won numerous awards including one of Engineering Weekly's top 125 projects in the last 125 years. This on-time, high-quality, minimum-dispute project led the client to develop a high level of respect for PCL as well as achieving national and international recognition for PCL's innovation in the construction industry.
