Ringling Causeway Design-Build Bridge

This Design-Build contract consisted of constructing a new precast segmental bridge structure spanning over Sarasota Bay.  In total, the structure is 3100 feet and is 106 feet in width.  This unique bridge is composed of a single box structure that is erected in halves.  This makes it one of the widest single box segmental bridges in North America.  The substructure is composed of single hollow box substructures supported on 9-foot diameter caissons.  Lighting was designed to the Department's highest standards for aesthetic purposes.  The project also required construction of the existing causeways including new infrastructure, embankment, retaining walls, and roadways.  Demolition of the existing structure and reconstructing the adjacent green spaces in coordination with the City were additionally required under the contract.  The Department considers the project as one of its World Class structures.
