Dania Beach Blvd Bascule Bridge Rehabilitation

The Dania Beach Boulevard (S.R. A1A) Bridge Repair Project in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida involved repairs to the existing moveable bridge located on Dania Beach Boulevard, approximately five miles south of the Ft. Lauderdale Airport.  The bridge spans the Intracoastal Waterway and is a four lane, six span, two leaf bascule bridge with 43 meters between East and West bascule piers.  Major repairs included:

• Replacement and addition of the bascule structural steel and roadway grating
• Widening of the bridge and approach sidewalks
• Replacement of the bridge electrical and controls
• Refurbishment of operating machinery
• Restoration of the control house interior
• Replacement of the fender system piling, timbers, walkway, railing and cable
• Grading and restoration of the approach slopes
• Replacement of bridge joints
• Abatement of lead based paint and recoating of structural steel on the approach and moveable bridge spans
• Cleaning and coating of concrete surfaces
• Installation of roadway barriers and traffic railing.
