Project Description
This new 17,000-seat basketball and hockey arena required the removal of the existing cable-stayed roof, demolition of the cast-in-place seating and excavation of 200,000 cy of soil to drop the basketball floor 35 feet.
The new seating bowl is constructed of cast-in-place beams and columns with precast floor planks, concrete topping and precast seating. The mechanical/electrical systems are completely new including a thermal storage/recovery system and computer-controlled lighting. Three adjacent buildings are also being remodeled to contain concession support and Supersonics retail sales.
