One-of-A-Kind Projects

ONE-OF-A-KIND PROJECTS represent an opportunity to build exciting and challenging projects that become landmarks for the communities they represent.

Some civil projects having the same general characteristics of those you’ve done before and are the kind you repeatedly undertake, such as a traditional highway overpass structure. Then there are those one-of-a-kind projects that are unique from an aesthetic, structural or functional point of view. These exciting, challenging projects prove to be landmark structures in their communities.

Below, our clients and other construction partners talk about their experiences working on one-of-a-kind projects with the PCL family of companies:

Smart Road Bridge over Wilson Creek
Smart Road Bridge over Wilson Creek
Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Montgomery County, Virginia, this 605-meter (1,985 feet) five-span structure has the highest bridge span in the state of Virginia. The box girder varies in depth from 9.5 meters (31.2 feet) at the piers to 3.7 meters (12.1 feet) at midspan. The cast-in-place superstructure was constructed using the balanced cantilever method with form travelers.

Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge
Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge
This was the first segmental arch bridge built in the United States. The monumental bridge is a familiar site to those travelling the historic Natchez Trace Parkway trade route between Nashville, Tennesse and Natchez, Mississippi. The bridge is approximately 1650 feet in length and 160 feet above a highway (Route 96) and a creek on the valley floor. The project won over 15 national and international awards

Alex Fraser Bridge to Annacis Island
Alex Fraser Bridge to Annacis Island
This cable-stayed bridge is located over the main arm of the Fraser River connecting New Westminster to Annacis Island. When built, the structure was the world's longest modified fan cable-stayed bridge. The overall length of the bridge is 3052 feet with a center span of 1525 feet rising 185 feet over the water. The bridge is the pride of British Columbia and provides a much-needed additional link to the suburban communities south of greater Vancouver.
