Toronto, ON (September 26, 2019) – PCL Construction will be leading an army of 4,000 supporters through the streets of Toronto on September 28 to raise awareness and funds to build a new SickKids.

“As the construction manager of SickKids’ new Patient Support Centre, PCL is committed to deliver the expertise and passion required to build SickKids’ vision of an inspired hospital of the future,” said Kelly Wallace, vice president and district manager, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto).

For the Children

Construction of the Patient Support Centre (PSC) is a critical first step for SickKids’ full campus redevelopment  plan Project Horizon.

The PSC will house the hospital’s education, simulation, and core administrative services in a modern, technology-enabled and sustainable office tower. Demolition of the structure that will be replaced by the tower is underway, with new construction to follow in late fall, 2019.

To raise the required $1.3 billion to build a new hospital campus, SickKids Foundation launched SickKids VS Limits, the largest fundraising campaign in Canadian health care history.

“Building for an organization like SickKids that takes care of the most prized members of our lives, our children, when they are at their most vulnerable creates a profound impact in knowing that we can contribute to their mission in some small way,” said Curtis Paddock, senior construction manager, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto).

GetLoud

To bring attention to the cause, PCL partnered with the foundation to take on the presenting role of their largest signature event, GetLoud. A family-friendly fundraiser, the event takes the energy and momentum of the campaign to the streets, in an epic one-day event that will see over 5,000 SickKids patients, family members, staff, and supporters march through Fort York, then celebrate with food, fun and a music festival.

PCL Toronto also aligned its Building Community program, which encourages employees to volunteer in the community, with this year’s GetLoud march and festival.

As part of the PCL Hard Hat Crew, employees and their families will have an active presence at the event, from lending a hand with set up and take down, to leading the march, and creating experiences to build kid-friendly projects during the day.

“PCL’s family culture encourages a generous spirit because as company owners, it’s our shared responsibility to build healthy communities” said Wallace. “Many of us have been touched in some way by the transformational care of SickKids, and on September 28 I invite you all to get loud with us and join the fight for a new SickKids.”
