Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, Florida, 55 West on the Esplanade spans a half city block on Church Street. With 34 stories and a 12-story parking garage, the facility contains both residential and commercial spaces. Atop the parking garage is a heavily landscaped lounge area and pool. The building also contains architectural elements to stand out in the Orlando skyline, including a glass structure on the roof of the building, cantilevered slabs on the roof of the penthouses, and a precast art panel that spans seven stories.
The PCL team worked diligently with the client, consultant, and subcontractors to turn this dream project into a reality. One of the most significant changes included replacing the block and stucco façade with carbon fiber reinforced precast panels, which saved on scaffolding and reduced the structure. The team also proposed replacing the block and stucco on the parking garage with site-cast, prefinished concrete panels. These two exterior changes resulted in an $850,000 savings for the client.
