After earning his degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University, Lucas Mallory entered the industry in the industrial sector on a power plant project. This experience sparked his passion for construction. “I hadn’t originally planned on a career in construction, but once I got into it, I found the best of both worlds: I could utilize my engineering mind with the technical side of the industry, and then step away from my desk to see something tangible be built,” says Mallory.

Since joining PCL in 2005, Mallory has worked on both the construction side and the client-driven side of the industry in business development. Now serving as the area manager for PCL’s San Diego office, Mallory oversees the longevity of the company’s regional success, ensuring that PCL's culture and mission are reflected in every aspect of operations.

Mallory views his current role as more than just achieving project goals; it’s about instilling a sense of purpose in every build and showcasing PCL as both a builder and a trusted partner in the community. “What locked me into the industry, is that it is a people business,” says Mallory. “Construction is about collaborating effectively with everyone – from the CEO to a laborer – and finding ways to bring everyone together to work toward a common goal."

One project of particular significance in Mallory’s career was the headquarters for Mile High United Way, a non-profit organization that focuses on providing programs and resources to support education and economic opportunity. It was during this project that Mallory experienced firsthand PCL’s commitment to community impact and United Way's mission to support those in need.

Despite the many triumphs he’s experienced, Mallory acknowledges that construction is a hard business, marked by constant change, tight schedules and the coordination of numerous moving parts. “The construction industry is dynamic and fluid,” says Mallory. “But at PCL, we know that if we’re successful as individuals, that success will transcend to our clients. We take care of our people so we can take care of our clients.”

PCL’s commitment to its people has been a cornerstone of Mallory’s career. As an employee-owned company, Mallory credits PCL’s culture of ownership as a key factor in fostering mutual support among employees and building lasting client relationships.

Beyond his role at PCL, Mallory is dedicated to supporting growth in San Diego through organizations like the Downtown San Diego Partnership, a nonprofit focused on driving economic vitality in the city’s downtown. Mallory’s dedication to his industry and community has earned him several professional accolades, including, a national recognition from Building Design + Construction’s 40 under 40, Coloradobiz Magazine’s Top 25 Young Professionals, and Denver Business Journal’s 40 Under 40.
