SYDNEY, New South Wales (June 5, 2024) – Metis Energy and PCL Construction have achieved full mobilization at Gunsynd Solar. With the project site active and work now underway, the team celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on June 4. This represents an exciting step forward for Metis Energy and PCL Construction’s Solar Australia team and symbolizes the continued momentum in their joint venture to diversify the global energy supply and create a brighter future for the local community.

Located in Goondiwindi, Queensland, Gunsynd Solar is a 111-megawatt direct current (MWdc) photovoltaic solar energy installation. It is set to generate up to 250 gigawatt hours of energy annually while abating CO2 emissions by approximately 150,000 tonnes per year. When complete, Gunsynd Solar will generate enough electricity to power more than 32,000 households in Queensland, making a notable contribution to achieving the country’s renewable energy targets.

“We’re extremely pleased to move forward with the project at Gunsynd,” said Gopi Govindraj, Australia Country Manager for PCL Solar. “Full mobilization and today’s groundbreaking mean the creation of jobs and the further development of critical infrastructure to provide power for the local community.”

“This is a momentous occasion for PCL Construction, Metis Energy, and our entire project team,” said Jeff Ewert, Field Management Operations Lead. “It’s a testament to our hard work over the past few months with preconstruction works, site planning, completing the groundbreaking and now getting underway with our onsite operations.”

To date, PCL has led the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) works for 870 megawatts-alternating current (MWac) of solar power in Australia. Metis Energy, Asia Pacific’s leading renewable energy developer, has 43MW of operational assets, 123MW in construction and more than 1 gigawatt (GW) of projects in development.
