Soaring 25 stories above the city, the CitiTower Luxury Apartment building in downtown Orlando brings a new sight to the Orlando skyline. With vertical height approaching the length of a football field, CitiTower is the tenth-tallest building in Orlando. CitiTower’s 233 units provide luxury living space to hundreds of locals in Orlando, which ranks as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States.

CitiTower’s 25 slab decks proved a perfect opportunity for PCL to bring cost and schedule benefits to the owner while self-performing 21,000 cubic yards of concrete. We used a Robotic Total Station as a layout tool to quickly verify the alignment of concrete forms before pouring slabs. We attached glass prisms to CitiTower’s surrounding buildings to provide the fixed reference points used to establish controls on-site. With controls established, the team could pinpoint slab edges with physical points identified. This approach eliminated the need for an onsite surveyor and saved the project the time and costs associated with an estimated 1,400 labor hours.
