A feat of sustainable engineering, the Lakeside Branch Library is a 16,800-square-foot Zero Net Energy facility in Lakeside, California. The new library project replaced an existing 5,000-square-foot library built in 1961 and features a larger and more modern interior. The $19 million facility includes five study rooms, a conference room, a patio, and public art. The library technology includes automated book returns, a laptop kiosk, an audio-visual system, and digital signage. It has a 2,000-square-foot community room that can be used for classes and other library activities, including meetings for small businesses or local organizations, a poet's patio, a catering kitchen for events, and a dedicated area for teens.
