American semiconductor company ONTO Innovation ramped up production of its defect-detecting modules with a major expansion project. Completed in two phases, the project included a 6,300 square-foot cleanroom build-out and 2,600 square-foot lab space relocation to increase production of the modules. 

Located within an operational facility, the PCL team implemented meticulous disruption avoidance measures, ensuring zero interruption to the client's daily operations throughout the entire project. This was especially crucial due to the presence of sensitive materials and equipment on-site. By maintaining streamlined construction process, the project team was able to protect the sensitive materials from dust and other construction site debris.

This project involved the remediation of a significant amount of asbestos-containing mastic, a common challenge in older buildings. Recognizing the potential health risks, the team prioritized the safe removal of 6,300 square feet of the material. Using rigorous protocols and specialized equipment, the team effectively controlled the release of asbestos fibers, ensuring the well-being of both workers and building occupants.

This project wasn't just about renovations; it was about embracing a greener future. The scope included replacing outdated halogen fixtures with LED lighting and an intelligent control system, creating a brighter, more sustainable space. The eco-friendly upgrades also include swapping the old ventilation system for a modern, energy-efficient alternative, significantly reducing the building's environmental footprint.

The shift to LED lighting brings immediate energy savings, while the modern ventilation system ensures long-term efficiency. That means lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint – a win for the customer and the earth.
