The Orlando World Center Marriott River Falls Waterpark and Magnolia Meeting Rooms Expansion is a two-part project that enhances the guest experience at the Orlando World Center Marriott. The new River Falls Waterpark adds a 576-foot zero entry lazy river, 3 tube water slides and aqua playground. This provides guests with an experience the entire family is sure the love without ever leaving the resort. Additionally, over 60,000 square feet of meeting rooms were added to the existing convention space. The dynamic and modern event spaces feature 24 equally sized ballrooms that can come together to create 8 ballrooms of 3,600 square feet creating more flexibility for events of all sizes. The addition allows the property the capacity to house intimate retreats, seminar, private dinners, meetings, reunions social gatherings and more.
Recognizing the summer thunderstorm season would bring muddy conditions and rain delays, PCL compressed the schedule, swiftly completing all under-slab work, creating a flat and hard surface for the steel erection. This allowed PCL to resequence the schedule to accelerate the roof installation of the Magnolia Meeting Rooms to avoid water intrusion issues during Florida’s rainy season. To accomplish this, the project team created a phased demolition plan of the existing convention center façade to coordinate the steel erection, decking, and roofing. This led to more efficient production during steel erection, which improved the overall schedule.
Due to the complex nature of the project, which included multiple areas under construction across the resort property and multiple subcontractors onsite, it was key to keep the project on schedule. With the resort’s aggressive timeline to open the facilities before the arrival of spring break visitors, the project required complex scheduling, including coordinating the team on site and the procurement of overseas materials. The River Falls Waterpark addition was completed ahead of schedule, allowing the resort’s newest amenity to open before the peak spring break season, a significant accomplishment for both PCL and the Orlando World Center Marriott property.
