The new Windermere Fire Station 31 is net zero, using geothermal and solar energy and a state-of-the-art building envelope to produce as much energy as it consumes. It’s a post-disaster centre for the community and a solution both to the needs of a growing Edmonton suburb and the City’s commitment to be net zero by 2040.

Over almost three years, starting when the lot was still bare, PCL captured video as the geothermal system was installed, as the steel structure was raised and as the remarkable building envelope was constructed.

Now, PCL is proud to present the Behind Our Builds video series on Windermere Fire Station 31, which explores how this marvel of modern design, engineering and construction was built with sustainability and resilience top of mind. These videos include interviews with many key contributors, detailing how PCL's in-house experts engaged with the City of Edmonton, architects and consultants to enhance design solutions, reduce cost and drive value.
