The PCL Bakersfield office has a saying: "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care." To Joe, this message speaks near and dear to his heart. He gets to know the people he works with and does whatever he can to take care of them. Joe believes PCL's employee-ownership environment is an amazing place for people to grow their careers. He knows this is something the company is proud of and the lens through which we all conduct our business.
Joe behaves the way he wants his employees to act, and his philosophy is, "Work hard, play hard." He arrives each morning bright and early and is usually the last to leave but he has a lot of fun with his team in between, enabling them to be themselves and also follow a “work hard, play hard” mentality.
PCL is only successful because of the amazing and talented people we hire and professionally develop. Joe believes it is his responsibility to ensure the company is bringing in the top talent that will do a great job and mesh well with our culture. He's particularly focused on ensuring we continuously hire college interns on a regular basis. Joe says without a constant flow of new talent into the business, current employees can't move up and the business can't grow.
