As PCL’s Director of Sustainability, Anton provides company-wide leadership to support our sustainability strategic plan, including cost-benefit analysis, sustainability goal tracking, value-added expertise and a broad range of services provided to PCL’s clients and project teams related to sustainable design and construction practices. “It’s an amazing opportunity to drive a sustainability program at a leading construction company and to align with clients in their climate action planning,” he says.
Anton started his career in western Canada while doing his Master of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary. In 1996, he moved to Ontario to work for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. There, he was introduced to PCL when the company worked on one of North America’s largest airport redevelopments, at Pearson International Airport.
Most recently, prior to joining PCL, Anton was the vice president of environmental management at Ontario Realty Corporation – Infrastructure Ontario, overseeing environmental compliance, sustainability and energy management programs for one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada.
Anton will drive PCL’s strategic sustainability plan and road map. He will collaborate with both internal and external clients, partners and stakeholders to develop cost-effective strategies that support the design, construction and operation of quality projects that achieve the highest level of sustainability, focused on reduced energy consumption and low-carbon targets.
“‘Less is more’ is the essence of sustainability,” says Anton. “From early planning through construction and to building operations, there are cost-effective ways to reduce a structure’s impact on the environment with enhanced returns on investment.”
This work includes retrofits to existing buildings and sustainable options for new builds. Whatever the client’s goals, PCL will help develop sustainable strategies to achieve success.
Anton says he uses concepts of net zero, climate action planning and resilience in his work. “These concepts go beyond simple sustainability and take into account the challenges of building and maintaining infrastructure in a changing climate,” he says. “It’s exciting to know that, collaborating with clients and our partners, we can make a difference and build a better future, together.”
