Edmonton, Alberta (June 15, 2020) – We are pleased to announce that PCL Construction has received the 2019 CCA Environmental Achievement Award for Panda Passage at the Calgary Zoo. The project achieved Petal Certification as part of the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge, a green-building program that visualizes the ideal for the built environment. Panda Passage is the first project in Alberta, and the first for PCL, to achieve LBC certification.
We also won the 2019 CCA Excellence in Innovation Award for Job Site Insights™ (JSI™), PCL’s cloud-based smart construction platform that provides real-time, cost-effective monitoring of environmental and energy conditions on project sites. In the two years since JSI was conceptualized, it has been used on 30 construction projects across North America, with all major PCL buildings projects scheduled to use it going forward.
PCL’s Chief Operating Officer, Canadian Operations, Mike Wieninger said, “We would like to thank the CCA for this great recognition. Everyone learns a lot on a job like the Panda Passage, and these knowledge gains will serve us all well as sustainable building principles become more and more standard on project sites. We’re very optimistic at PCL about what Job Site Insights™ can do, and we feel that it’s making PCL a better construction partner: it saves trade contractors time and gives owners peace of mind, knowing they can keep their investment going efficiently after handover, with less worry and expense.”
