DENVER, Colo. (May 24, 2024) – PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc. is proud to announce its recognition as one of the premier general contractors in the United States, as reflected in the Engineering News-Record's (ENR) 2024 Top 400 Contractors list.

ENR ranks the 400 largest general contractors with a U.S. presence (both publicly and privately held) based on construction revenue. This year's ENR list noted an increase in revenue, highlighting the expansion and dynamic capabilities within the industry.

PCL’s construction revenue for 2023 was US$7.3 billion (CA$9.7 billion), as indicated on the list. New contracts for Top 400 firms jumped 13.9% from last year, totaling $556.9 billion.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top contractors in the country by ENR. This achievement reflects our team's hard work, expertise, and dedication to providing operational excellence,” said Deron Brown, PCL president and chief operating officer, U.S. operations. “It's a testament to the trust our clients place in us, and we are grateful for their continued support.”

PCL maintains a clear strategic vision focused on sustainable growth, deepening client relationships, and investing in technology to enhance project delivery efficiency. These initiatives are key to the company's goal of setting new industry benchmarks and delivering exceptional client value.

Jack Sample, regional president at PCL, joined ENR editor Jonathan Keller and other leaders from top-ranked firms during the magazine’s annual webinar to discuss the results of the 2024 Top 400 Contractors list.

Sample emphasized PCL’s focus on a culture of safety and programs he’s seen that have been successful in incorporating less experienced workers on our sites.

“As our workload continues to grow, we’re encountering more workers who don’t necessarily have the experience and safety culture that we’re accustomed to. We’re working hard to engage with them the moment they come onsite. At PCL, we have a program where each member of our staff adopts a crew, which means they get to know the workers on a personal level and coach them on how to plan to do their work safely. This helps build relationships so that when someone may see a safety issue, they feel more comfortable speaking up.”

He added that partnering with crews also helps with another important issue – mental health. “Once you get to know your crews better you can identify warning signs of someone who may be struggling and tell them about the resources we have available,” said Sample.
