Since joining PCL in 2005 as an estimator, Chris Hauck has consistently demonstrated a passion for aligning projects with client budgets and setting up jobs for successful execution. His goal has always been to deliver such a positive experience that clients feel confident returning to PCL for future projects.

While still in high school, Hauck discovered that he had a knack for seeing three-dimensional objects in two-dimensional drawings, and he enjoyed the challenge of doing so. Following that natural talent, he enrolled at the North Dakota State College of Science and completed an Associate Degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating. While he chose the program because of his interest in drafting, his sights soon turned to the estimating side of the degree.

In 2009, while working full-time at PCL and raising young children, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota to pursue a bachelor’s degree in construction management. Following graduation, he transitioned into a project engineer role, encouraged by a colleague to gain field experience. After several years in operations, he returned to his true passion: estimating and preconstruction.

His time in the field profoundly influenced how he mentors young estimators. He actively promotes opportunities for them to spend time on project sites, believing that firsthand experience enhances their ability to estimate effectively.

What Hauck values most about PCL is the people. Despite its size, the company maintains a close-knit culture of top-tier construction professionals across North America. Coupled with its 100% employee-owned model, excellent benefits and competitive compensation, it’s a place he’s proud to be part of.

Beyond his role at PCL, Hauck served a three-year term as a director of the Minnesota Builders Exchange. He also contributed his expertise to his church, serving on a council to help lead a major renovation project — an opportunity to apply his professional skills in a meaningful community setting.
