With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Trent Johnson serves as the district manager for PCL Construction’s projects in the Midwest, overseeing operations in Minnesota, North Dakota and beyond. For 25 of those years, he has been an integral part of PCL, collaborating with clients on large, complex projects and creating spaces that foster community growth.
Johnson’s passion for construction was inspired by watching his father’s hard work in the industry. After graduating from North Dakota State University, he began his career at a small construction firm, where he spent four years honing his skills. His journey with PCL began shortly thereafter, leading him through a series of leadership roles: 18 years in preconstruction and estimating, four years as operations manager, and ultimately, district manager.
Early in his career, success meant personal achievements in leadership and winning projects. Today, Trent measures success by the improvements he brings to his district and the surrounding communities. His dedication to nurturing communities through PCL Construction projects combined with his hometown ties to North Dakota emphasizes his vision for a more connected future.
In the early stages of his career, Johnson defined success through personal milestones and project wins. Today, his focus has shifted toward the broader impact he can make, measuring success by the growth and improvement of his district and the communities it serves. His deep-rooted connection to the Midwest and commitment to community development through PCL projects reflect his vision for a more connected and resilient future.
PCL is deeply committed to advancing Indigenous construction opportunities and fostering meaningful community engagement. Johnson upholds this mission by partnering with Native American-owned construction firms and actively volunteering at local events. His efforts aim to create enduring, positive change within Indigenous communities. This dedication is also evident in his involvement with the Indian Gaming Association and its Minnesota chapter.
Additionally, Johnson plays an active role in the Minnesota chapter of the Association of General Contractors, where he represents PCL and advocates for the interests of general contractors across the region.
