Tyler Schultz has worked on a wide range of projects in the commercial, entertainment and hospitality markets during his 11 years at PCL. One of the most memorable was the Treetop Trail at the Minnesota Zoo, an innovative zoo project that transformed a dormant 1.25-mile monorail into an elevated pedestrian loop reaching 32 feet above ground, offering guests a unique vantage point to experience the zoo and its wildlife. As his first major assignment as a project manager, it was a natural fit given his previous experience with several PCL projects at the Minnesota Zoo. The work required careful coordination to respect the zoo’s nocturnal animals and maintain a low profile for both guests and wildlife, and the public’s enthusiastic reception made the effort especially rewarding.

Schultz’s path to PCL began with hands-on experience working for his father’s company, which specialized in drilling water wells and installing geothermal systems. That early exposure to construction sites sparked an interest in managing entire projects, leading him to pursue a degree in construction management at North Dakota State University. He joined PCL immediately after graduation, starting as a field engineer.

His early career included work with tribal communities including Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. These projects were personally meaningful, as Schultz had previously built strong relationships with regional tribal groups during his time working for his father.

Schultz identifies three key factors that set PCL apart: its employee-ownership model, which fosters a culture of shared responsibility and collaboration; the depth of resources and support available through a large general contractor; and the company’s commitment to developing internal talent, offering opportunities for growth from field roles to executive leadership.

Outside of work, Schultz is deeply involved in the Twin Cities community, volunteering with the local food bank and Habitat for Humanity. He also participates in the Minnesota branch of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, reflecting PCL’s broader commitment to community engagement and development.
