The Canpotex Rail Maintenance and Staging Facility included the construction of a 44,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building to serve as a maintenance facility for Canpotex’s extensive rail car fleet.
To assist with routine checkups and to serve as a staging location for the nearby potash mine, the new facility contains five main areas. The first is the center’s wheel shop with a five-ton overhead rail crane for lifting. The other areas include a light maintenance bay with elevated rail tracks, a car wash bay and office and locker rooms.
The facility’s location and overall purpose made for a unique construction project, specifically the mechanical and electrical systems. To work around these challenges, we brought our third-party vendors in early to work in conjunction with the building construction, resulting in time and cost savings.
