Claresholm Solar is a 182-megawatt DC photovoltaic (PV) solar facility, located east of Claresholm, Alberta in the municipal district of Willow Creek, that occupies 1,280 acres of land. The facility is home to 455,758 bifacial PV panels installed in a fixed-tilt racking structure.
As the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, PCL was involved in the design and construction of the facility. PCL completed civil works, piling, and installation of racking, PV modules and AC and DC cabling. PCL also procured and installed the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
PCL Calgary worked in collaboration with PCL Solar to deliver the project on schedule and on budget. PCL Calgary self-performed the installation of the racking, modules and all civil trenching while PCL Industrial Management self-performed all electrical and substation construction. At peak construction, the project employed 620 people.
The completed facility directly reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 149,000 metric tons per year.
