The stunning Dr. Philips for Performing Arts Center is inspired by the creative energy of the people who live, work, and visit there. Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, the first phase of the 330,000 square-foot venue includes performance venues, a banquet hall and a School of Arts. There are two theatres, the Walt Disney Theater, a 2,700-seat amplified hall designed for large, Broadway style performances, and the Alexis and Jim Pugh theater, a 300-seat multifunction community theatre along with supporting public and back of house spaces. The project was constructed as a public-private partnership between the Dr. Phillips Center, the City of Orlando, and Orange County.
PCL was contracted as program manager for the general contractor of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, meaning not a single ounce of concrete was poured, nor a hammer swung by a PCL employee. Instead, the project team acted as the owner’s representative for construction, mediating between all the financial investors and community leaders and visionaries as they came together to make the performing arts center happen.
