The pre-engineered steel Pearl Car Care Center is a 16-bay facility located adjacent to Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam. It is the first facility in the Pacific, and second in the nation, to provide a retail and vehicle maintenance shop off-base to service the vehicles of military personnel and their families. The center is the first of a series of regional car care facilities being built across the nation that meet NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Command) requirements and retail requirements by the Navy Exchange (NEX).
Before construction, we needed to vacate the existing Directorate of Public Works storage yard and reconfigure the parking lot to accommodate future phases. We utilized preconstruction kick-off meetings to communicate the master schedule, solicit buy-in from the multiple government stakeholders, and reveal or remove any project constraints. Open and transparent communication, especially on a high-security government property, was the key to completing a successful project.
