Nestled in Prior Lake, adjacent to The Meadows at Mystic Lake golf course and Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, LaunchPad Golf is the first location of its kind in the U.S. LaunchPad Golf builds on the success of its Calgary, Alberta, prototypes, offering an innovative and immersive golfing experience.
The LaunchPad Golf project transformed an existing RV park into a premier 40-suite golf entertainment venue spanning nearly 28,000 square-feet. This state-of-the-art venue features indoor and outdoor dining areas, two bars, VIP suites, a private dining room and full-service kitchen. The premium finishes throughout the building elevate the experience, setting it apart from other golf entertainment venues.
Additionally, the location’s 243-yard-long driving range features over five acres of artificial turf surrounded by 185-foot-high poles and nets. Unlike traditional flat ranges, this one incorporates varied slopes and terrain, creating a more dynamic and engaging experience. Custom-designed targets, built with gravel, turf, LED light rings, and flag poles add a unique visual and functional element to the range.
With nearly 30 years of partnership, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) trusted PCL’s ability to deliver a complex, one-of-a-kind project on a tight schedule. This trust was critical given the project’s unique challenges, including intricate turf and netting systems, coordination with multiple vendors, and innovative construction techniques.
This project was the first LaunchPad Golf location built on a new site following two prototypes constructed on existing driving ranges. PCL’s proven track record with the SMSC gave the client confidence in the team’s ability to manage complexity, adapt to site conditions, and integrate cutting-edge golf systems.
The project faced several obstacles, from weather delays to design and procurement challenges. PCL implemented an IGMP (Integrated Guaranteed Maximum Price) process to accelerate sitework and building structure development, even as final designs were still being completed.
When no subcontractors were available to take on the turf scope, PCL stepped in to assist with design and completed the work in-house. Netting also posed procurement and scheduling issues, which PCL resolved by vetting vendors and managing delivery timelines.
The driving range’s sloped terrain required creative grading solutions, unlike typical flat facilities. A historically wet spring added further complications, but PCL overcame delays through strategic sequencing, overtime work and a strong focus on schedule.
LaunchPad Golf exemplifies forward-thinking construction with sustainable infrastructure designed for future enhancements. The venue is prepped for car charging stations and solar panels, while the electrical system allows for future expansions, such as additional signage or attractions.
Low-maintenance artificial turf and landscaping were selected to minimize upkeep, while creative grading solutions preserved over 15 mature trees, maintaining the natural aesthetic of the original space. These efforts reflect PCL’s commitment to sustainability and innovative use of materials and technology.
PCL’s ability to manage these elements efficiently and cost-effectively ensures the venue is both cutting-edge and built for long-term performance.
